Education & Programming:
Plans are underway for the Fire Prevention & Family Safety Festival scheduled for October 6, 2012. A Chili Cook-Off has been added to this year’s event. Carol attended a meeting with local DPS and Law enforcement to encourage participation in the event.
Carol attended a training class to learn more about project budget preparation at the Foundation for Southeast Texas.
The Fire Museum was proud to host a training session for the Foundation of the Blind this month a total of 10 visually impaired children, ages 6-12 visited our museum on July 19th to learn about fire history & fire prevention. In addition to practicing fire safety skills they learned to walk outdoor in a downtown environment and stayed to enjoy lunch. Rosco was a big hit with the children.
Carol visited the YMBL to deliver the final report on Summer Camp with photos, a personal thank you and t-shirts in appreciation of the organization’s sponsorship.
Collections & Exhibits:
Texas Forest Service has ordered an updated panel to replace the current exhibit. It should arrive and be displayed within the next month.
The New York Port Authority notified us our photos submitted of the 9-11 Memorial will be used in a book being published later this year.
Marketing:
Each time we post on Facebook now we are reaching 300-400 people. Brochures continue to be distributed to Texas Travel Centers across Texas. Upcoming events and our holiday schedule have been sent to local news and media outlets.
Fundraising & Grants:
Carol applied for two grants this month, Entergy and HEB. Both grants will help pay for expenses of the Fire Prevention & Family Safety Festival if awarded. We begin soliciting sponsorship for the Festival. . The SFFMA donated $500 to our organization and four engraved bricks were installed. The gift shop continues to be a positive income source for our organization.
Volunteers:
RSVP is running an ad in their newsletter to recruit new volunteers. Carol spoke at Future Leaders Luncheon hosted by Exxon Mobil extended an invitation to High School students to volunteer at the Fire Museum. Mr. Noble is hoping to return to his duties soon.
Other FMOT News:
The Texas Commission on Fire Protection recently started using a photo of the State of Texas Firefighter Memorial on their certifications.
Carol attended a meeting for the Texas Association of Museums to help start planning the 2013 conference in Beaumont. We plan to host a progressive dinner in downtown museums in April with the group.
New signage was installed in an attempt to gain more respect for the exhibits and apparatus by visitors.
The museum was used as a backdrop in the recruitment video being produced by the Fire Department.
The next Board Meeting is scheduled for August 30, 2012 at noon at The Beaumont Club. Allison Getz will be recognized for her long time commitment as President of the organization. Congratulations to Dan Maher and his family, our newest Board member has added a baby girl to his family. Happy Birthday wishes to Mr. James Broussard, Board President. Mr. Broussard is turning 80 in August.
